Thursday Workshop night

Thu 8 Mar 2012 12:00am

Thursday (7.30 -9.30pm Gracefield Studios).

There will be a variety of subjects on offer, including the following:

Photoshop Elements 10

I will be working through the basics of using Elements 10, a very much
cheaper version of Photoshop, which provides most of the things we
photographers need, at a fraction of the cost. If you are just getting
started with digital photography (and whether or not you have a version of
Elements, or are just thinking about investing in one), this is for you.

I will cover the basic use of tools and techniques, which should put you
well on the way to greatly improving your images. This tutorial will last
for the full evening.

Getting started in Nature photography

Edmund (and possibly Mick) will be giving tips on how to start capturing the
wonderful world of nature, without having to spend vast sums of money on all
the most expensive and up to date kit. Depending on the numbers attending on
the night, this presentation is likely to last around 45 minutes and will
run twice, in order to keep group sizes small.

Composition and other interesting things

Margaret will be leading a tutorial discussing composition and other
photographic essentials, to help you improve your photographs at the taking
stage (*i.e. when it matters most). This will also last for around 45
minutes and run twice, depending on numbers.

Camera maintenance

David will be giving advice on basic camera maintenance and cleaning, both
internal and external. This short presentation will fit in a break between
Edmund and Margaret's tutorials, but David is happy to go into more detail
for those that are interested, or indeed chat about any other aspect of
photography which you may wish to discuss.

The evening as a whole is designed to be flexible and will be run on the
night to suit the needs of those who attend. There's an awful lot on offer,
particularly for those less advanced members, so don't miss out.

Comments

A most useful occasion and one for which the presenters jointly and severally deserve the warmest thanks and appreciation. Each presentation was an evening in itself and, therefore, it was not possible to take the full advantage of what was on offer by attending each one. Accordingly, one hopes they will all be repeated. The arrangement of tutorials is an ingredient vital to the utility of the club, especially for new members and those wanting to travel the photographic learning curve. Apart from the actual didactic nature of such events, the socializing factor enables members of varying lengths of club involvement to encounter and interact with each other beyond the limited possibilities of normal club evenings when it is a case of "eyes front".

Finally, a special thank you to Edmund for securing the services of the young, petite South American model who patiently allowed us to shoot her in various positions.

Thanks to Simon for a night full of great tips & shortcuts. It will now make editing of my images go a tad quicker & smoother.
