Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Photoshop but didn't Know Who to Ask

Wed 15 Mar 2017 7:30am

A Q&A evening.  If you have any queries about Photoshop, Lightroom or any other photography software, please post them here and we will find someone who can demonstrate the solution.  Suggestions so far include 'actions' in Photoshop and batch processing photos.

Conversely, if you know any tricks or shortcuts that you are willing to share on the 15th, please add the information to this post.

Question: we often hear that an image should be changed for PDI / printing - can anyone demonstrate the differences?

We could maybe look at that on our Q&A night.  Basically putting an image on paper causes a loss of contrast, sharpness, sometimes colour, which you have to compensate for.  That file is probably now too contrasty, oversharpened and possibly too saturated to be a PDI.

That was the plan Rod!

How about cutting round soft objects e.g. hair?

Or cloning with grass and looking realistic?

Or removing highlights or objects in water? I've tried and just get unrealistic patterns amongst the waves.

Catherine, I will add that to my list and try and demo it. Currently I'm covering:

Batch processing.
Batch renaming.
Cut-outs using plugin.
Some simple montage layering using the cut-out.

I will add:
Simple retouching of water or grass.

I'll be using the Mac (makes no difference to the PC at all so don't be put off) with Bridge, Photoshop CS6, Topaz ReMask 5.

If I have time then I will run though one of my weird pics and show the process but that might need to be for another time.

Cutting round hair and getting good mono photos

Getting optimum image for printing would be helpful.

And a Club Draw too.

Two weeks ago it was won by Fiona Willoughby, Ball No 33 (£9.50), then last week by Jim McMichael, Ball No 14 (£9); well done to both of you.

So, this week will be a fresh draw with a fresh sheet. Please bring your £1s and have a modest flutter. Thank-you and Good Luck.

Composits might be worth a look as I have never done one
