internal competitions

We have a Colour and a Mono Print League (4 rounds during the year to which you can enter 3 prints in each) and a Projected Digital Image League (PDI, also 4 rounds during the year to which you can enter 3 PDI).

The League competitions allow you to compete against others at your own level in as many Divisions as are required (see scoring for more info). We also hold an Annual Competition, open to all members, near the end of the year. In addition to this we have several less serious competitions which are briefly described in the website Syllabus.

It is always our intention to limit each League to around 8 competitors to keep the competition tight and at the beginning of a season a certain amount of restructuring may be necessary to achieve this. This may mean that some members will have to drop down a League but there will then be a much more open field in every League.

The purpose of our competitions is to encourage you to take pictures and to show them to the Club. Competition adds a great deal to the overall enjoyment and the judges comments can be insightful and frustrating at the same time.

Competition can be fierce but we all do it for fun and you should never be discouraged if your picture is not succesful.

We encourage all members to get involved.

ANNUAL COMPETITION

There will be one Division only, to include all members. Only PDI and Prints not entered in a previous Annual Competition will be eligible.  There is no entry form but you must enter PDI online and you must use the appropriate Annual Print Label.

Entries will be accepted in two classes – PDI and Prints (monochrome and colour combined). The maximum entry per author this year wil be 20 PDI and 20 Prints but you can, of course, enter fewer.   You are expected to submit pictures for a wide variety of categories.

The competition will be assessed by a panel of three judges who will mark each photograph and will award the trophies specified, plus commendations. It will be the judges' decision as to which category a particular entry belongs to, although Nature will be judged as a separate category.

It is strongly recommended that you do NOT, in the same year, enter the same picture as a Print and as a PDI and we positively discourage entering the same picture as a Colour Print and as a Mono Print.  The same people judge them all and you will be competeing against yourself - and it is fairly boring.

Nature (N) and Beginner (B) must be indicated on the Print Label and add NX at the end of your PDI title for Nature and NW for Nature Wildlife. If you fail to do this your entries will not be judged in th nature category.

Trophies will not be awarded if there is no suitable entry in a particular category.

No PDI or Print may win more than one trophy.
